H/W: Write a 1-2 page paper describing the connections between the four major characters (Hester and Pearl Prynne, Arthur Dimmesdale, and Roger Chillingworth).  Focus on organization of thoughts and characters.  Do some form of prewriting to help make your paper flow logically.  I want to see transitions between thoughts/paragraphs, but I do NOT want “Next I will discuss…”   (Typed, double spaced, MLA)

Peer Edit these papers.  Consider organization as well as word choice.  Avoid second person (you).

In groups, prepare for Debate.  The statement you will either defend or refute is:

                       ”Chillingworth’s sin is worse than Dimmesdale’s.” 

                       (defend: Chillingworth is worse.  refute: Dimmesdale is worse.)

Students will have a judging sheet to determine the winner of the debates.

Students will write a brief explanation of how they believe the book will end from this point!  We will share these with the class.

Students will answer discussion questions and fill out a concept map in groups to review for the test.

Short test in class, The Scarlet Letter Essay due.
